Tips for Inspecting and Storing New Light Poles

So, your General Structures, Inc. light pole order has arrived. Great!

Here are a few important steps to follow during and immediately after receiving your shipment.

Checking Your Light Poles

Before you sign off on that delivery, it’s important to check the contents.

Remove the blue wrap and cardboard to thoroughly inspect each piece and ensure everything was delivered as expected without damage. That also releases any moisture that may be trapped inside the packaging, which could damage the finish.

If you notice any problems, notify your delivering carrier within 10 days of receiving the shipment. Failure to do so relieves the carrier of all responsibility. You can note the issues on your delivery receipt.

If you’re missing any items, please notify us within 72 hours of receiving your shipment. Otherwise, you may be required to purchase replacement parts.

Storing Your Light Poles (Properly)

If possible, store the poles indoors unwrapped. If they must be stored outside, unwrap the light poles and keep them off the ground. It’s important that the poles are not submerged in water or snow.

We recommend alternating the poles top to bottom and bottom to top. It’s a good idea to separate layers of poles with padded dunnage (dry, untreated wood). Lay the dunnage evenly between poles to apply equal pressure.

What to Avoid

Don’t leave any wrapping or cardboard on the poles. It may damage the finish by trapping heat and moisture, creating the ideal environment for stains and corrosion.

Avoid dunnage that’s wet or that has a chemical makeup, as it could also damage the poles’ finish. Unequal dunnage distribution can bend or warp your poles.
