How Fiberglass Poles Are Made
At General Structures, Inc., we supply filament-wound, fiberglass poles made with computer-controlled equipment. Since this production process allows for precise control of the glass, fiber, and resin required to create the poles, we are able to supply high-quality fiberglass structures built to spec that are meant to last. Whether you prefer the standard tenon top construction or you want poles that are capped and drilled, we can make it happen. As a plus, all tenons and anchor bases are made with durable, corrosion-resistant aluminum.
Fiberglass Pole Finish
There are two kinds of finish you can choose for your fiberglass poles: natural or smooth.
Our natural finish is typically more cost-effective since the textured appearance occurs naturally during the manufacturing process. It compares favorably in appearance with other available fiberglass pole options.
The smooth finish tends to be slightly more expensive due to the required extra step of sanding the pole before painting. This option is a closer match to more costly steel and aluminum poles.
Both are finished with a special resin applied at 12-15 mils thick, which provides a superior finish to the normal 3-6 mils of paint. The resin is pigmented and fortified with ultraviolet inhibitors to produce a long-lasting, reliable product.
Why Choose Fiberglass Poles?
- Impact Resistant – Fiberglass poles are more resistant than other poles to major impacts, like drops.
- Low Maintenance – Since these poles are corrosion-resistant, they’ll never rust and aren’t affected by the elements or damaging products like road salts, fertilizers, and saltwater. This makes fiberglass poles ideal for just about anywhere, including coastal locations.
- Super Durable – They can withstand wind loads up to 180 MPH. That means they’ll be able to weather even a Category 5 hurricane.
- Budget-Friendly – Because of the precise manufacturing, customizable options, and superior strength, you may be thinking that fiberglass poles are more expensive than other types of poles. But the price is actually pretty comparable.
